IJGA Stars Make History

Evan Pena, a fifteen year old from Puerto Rico, was the first home player to win the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Championship with a 4 under par total of 212 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, Rio Grande.  This was Evan’s first AJGA victory in three starts and he commented “Winning this event in Puerto Rico where I’m from means so much to me. I am super excited for this day and I can’t wait for many more wins to come“.

At the same time his house mate at IJGA, Gerardo Gomez, was almost trying to make his own history, seeking to emulate IJGA student Julian Perico in winning the South American Amateur.  However, with an 11 under par score, he ended up with the silver medal.   Gerardo will be joining the Razorbacks of Arkansas in August 2024, filling the void left by Julian, who graduated last year, but joining IJGA alumni John Daly II and Giovanna Fernandez.
