On the same day that Joshua Hess graduated from Montverde Academy, he flew to Edinburgh, Scotland. He has earned his place on the prestigious IJGT Race to Scotland trip. Joshua Hess is an outstanding golfer and one of International Junior Golf Academy’s most promising young athletes.
Adapting to Scottish Links Golf
Joshua spent ten days playing links golf on East Lothian’s renowned courses, including multiple rounds at the Renaissance Club, host of the Scottish Open. He quickly learned to adjust to fast fairways, firm greens, and relentless winds.
This experience was ideal preparation for the Scottish Championship at North Berwick’s historic West Course (May 30-June 1) and the St. Andrews Links Trophy (June 6-8), played on the Jubilee and the legendary Old Course.
Joshua Hess Enjoys Success at the Scottish Championship
Battling winds up to 40 mph, Joshua Hess demonstrated grit and patience. He shot a sub-par 70 on day one and a two-under 69 on day two, making the cut at three-under. Only 43 players advanced, with over 100 missing out. The final day required an arduous 36 holes. Although Joshua slipped in the last round, his overall performance was impressive.
A Strong Finish at the St. Andrews Links Trophy
At St. Andrews, Joshua Hess started strong with a three-under round on the Jubilee Course. How followed with a one-over on the old course, making the cut as one of 53 players. On the final day, he played 36 holes on the Old Course. After a steady first round, he finished with a five-under 67–one of the best rounds of the day–and placed 30th overall.
Lasting Memories and Future Plans for Joshua Hess
Joshua’s magical closing round at the Old Course capped off an unforgettable trip and reflected IJGA’s golf training philosophy. In August 2025, Joshua will begin his freshman year at Eastern Michigan University, alongside Timothy Chan, who also made the cut in both events.
