With recent AJGA wins, Sofia Cherif Essakali has risen to 13th in the AJGA women’s rankings, earning her an invitation to play for the East team in the Wyndham Cup. After narrowly losing her opening day morning fourball by one hole, she and her partner won the second-day female foursomes two up and, with Mile Russell, won the afternoon mixed foursomes.
A Thrilling Finish at the Wyndham Cup
Sofia saved her best performance for the third-day singles when, after falling four behind AJGA 3rd ranked Jasmine Koo with four to play. Sofia made four birdies to snatch a tie in a thrilling finish. Top-ranked AJGA woman Yana Wilson, who spent much of the last academic year at IJGA, was not on the West team as she was competing in the Evian Championship, her second major of the year.
