IJGA Alum Hiroshi Tai Makes Historic Debut at the 2025 Masters
From IJGA to Augusta: A Milestone Moment in Golf
International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) proudly celebrates alumnus Hiroshi Tai, who made history by becoming the first golfer from Singapore to compete in the Masters Tournament. His debut at Augusta National marks a major milestone not only for his career but also for golf in Asia.
A Journey Built on Talent, Dedication, and Service
Hiroshi began playing golf in Singapore at the age of four. Recognizing his passion and potential, his family relocated to Winter Garden, Florida, where Hiroshi joined a junior golf academy that later became part of IJGA through the BGGA merger. His exceptional junior career earned him a spot on the Georgia Tech golf team, although he postponed enrollment for two years to complete his mandatory military service in the Singapore Navy.
Making NCAA and Masters History
In May 2024, Hiroshi captured the NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Championship, becoming the first Asian golfer to win the title in the tournament’s 127-year history. This victory propelled him into the top 20 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings and earned him invitations to both the 2024 U.S. Open and the 2025 Masters Tournament.
A Memorable Performance at Augusta National
Hiroshi made a strong start at the Masters with a 1-over-par 73, finishing as the top amateur after round one. He tied the scores of past champions like Jordan Spieth and 2024 standout Xander Schauffele, proving he belonged on golf’s biggest stage. Although he carded a 77 in round two, Hiroshi’s performance left a lasting impression and marked a career-defining experience.
