Zhang qualifies for U.S. Women’s Amateur

Current IJGA student, Yunjie Zhang of Haikou City, China, qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur at the sectional qualifier at Sapona Ridge Country Club on July 2, 2014. Zhang fired a 1-over-par 72 to finish in a tie for fifth place and earn one of the ten spots available at the qualifier.

With a great start to her round, Zhang played her first eight holes 1-under-par. After a bogey on her ninth hole, she responded with a birdie on No. 10 to get back to 1-under-par. From there, she used her solid ball striking and accuracy off the tee to return to the clubhouse with a 72.

Zhang will compete in the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) Women’s Amateur Championship on August 4-10, 2014, at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y. This is considered by most experts to be the best women’s amateur tournament in the world.
