Two IJGA athletes had outstanding performances at the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Championship and the South American Amateur tournaments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evan Pena Wins the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Championship. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fifteen-year-old Evan Pena<\/a>, hailing from Puerto Rico, made history as the first home player to clinch victory at the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Championship<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He achieved this milestone with an impressive 4-under-par total of 212 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande. This win marked Evan’s inaugural triumph in three AJGA starts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed his excitement, stating, “Winning this event in Puerto Rico, where I\u2019m from, means so much to me. I am super excited for this day, and I can\u2019t wait for many more wins to come.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerardo Gomez Wins Silver in South American Amateur <\/h2>\n\n\n\n


Meanwhile, Evan’s fellow housemate at IJGA, Gerardo Gomez<\/a>, was on the brink of making his mark in history, aiming to follow in the footsteps of IJGA student Julian Perico by winning the South American Amateur.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite an impressive 11-under-par score, he ultimately secured the silver medal. Gerardo is set to join the University of Arkansas<\/a> Razorbacks in August 2024, stepping into the shoes left vacant by Julian, who graduated the previous year. He joins the ranks of IJGA alums alongside John Daly II<\/a> and Giovanna Fernandez.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
