As with all the equipment we have at IJGA, our K-Vest system is constantly being used to help in the development of our junior golfers. It is the industry leader in wireless 3D motion capture devices and was the first of its kind. It allows player development through monitored, repetitive motions while giving the player instant feedback on what precisely is happening with their body during the swing. The K-Vest system’s wearable sensors are on the torso, pelvis, lead arm and the glove hand. They monitor the various motions of each body part, such as rotation, side bend and forward bend. It also monitors the sequencing of the body and highlights any areas where power is lost or where it can be gained. Any weakness in sequencing can lead to a severe loss of ball control, especially under tournament conditions or any other situation in which you must perform under pressure. Through its superb 3D software and the expert coaches at IJGA, a highly individualized training program can be devised to meet the specific needs of the player. The system enables us to store data from each player and allows us to continuously monitor the progress of players throughout the year. One of the greatest benefits of the K-Vest is that once a training program has been created, players can work on their own with little supervision from a coach. This in turn creates a more independent player who shows more initiative.
Within our technical phases, players have specific times when they work on their swing, and through the intensive training sessions using the K-Vest, players can improve their swing mechanics in a fraction of the time that it used to take. This is done by using 3D imagery shown on a computer screen, music that plays when you get the correct position and large mirrors. This combination of visual and audible learning improves and accelerates the player’s body awareness. When used within a varied practice session, which is standard for all IJGA students, the players create new motor skills which enable them to accelerate their development. For example, students may spend 20min on training a particular range of movements whilst using the K-Vest while not hitting any balls. They would then move on to hitting some shots while wearing the K-Vest. This process would then be repeated leading to significant improvements.
When using the K-Vest under the guidance of IJGA’s elite coaches, the K-vest is a highly effective tool helping to develop the next generation of top level professionals.
