The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) closed its fall season with the International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) Invitational at Prestigious Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
Golfers braved the elements for the opportunity to play the same course on which the pros compete during the PGA Tour RBC Heritage Tournament. Saturday brought cold, wind and rain, which caught some students by surprise at this beachside tournament. The elements made for an interesting first round and left the door open for an exciting finish on Sunday. Luckily, the weather took a turn for the better on Sunday and scores reflected that change. Competitors ended up with the most exciting IJGT finish all year with a 5-way playoff.
Two IJGA students, Tristan Galant of Cape Town, South Africa and Alex Lamarca from Westwood, New Jersey, made the playoff after taking advantage of the better playing conditions Sunday. Both played well on the playoff hole, but John Daly II, student at IJGA’s sister academy, Bishops Gate Golf Academy, birdied the playoff to win the event by one stroke. IJGA did very well in the girls division as well, with Fiona Khaing from Yangon, Myanmar finishing in second place and One Kashima from Tochigi, Japan just one stroke behind in third.
IJGA couldn’t have asked for a more exciting finish to their fall semester, with amazing accomplishments and overall athletic progress from their student athletes. With a much-deserved holiday break coming up, students will be able to rest up for the upcoming spring semester and tournament schedule that will begin in February, 2018.
