Many IJGA alumni have started their college golf seasons in the past two weeks. For some it, this marked the beginning of their college careers, and for others, another season full of defending tournament titles and working towards claiming conference championships in the Spring of 2015. Laura Restrepo, a member of the University of Louisville’s Women’s Golf program, was back to her winning ways after firing a 3-under-par 141 to earn medalist honors at the Cardinal Kickoff on Sept. 7, 2014. Restrepo paced the Cardinal team that won the competition by 33 strokes over the University of Georgia. This was Restrepo’s third-career individual title. Just a junior, Restrepo will look to defend her individual title at the Cardinal Cup, which starts on Sept. 16, 2014 at the University of Louisville Golf Course.
2014 graduate Bria’ Sanders started off her collegiate career at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) Atlanta with an impressive third-place finish at the Bill Sergent Invitational. She recorded a tournament total of 154 and made four birdies over the course of the tournament.
Nikita Arjun, a 2014 graduate, played very well in her first collegiate event for Spartanburg Methodist University. Arjun finished in third place at the Anderson University Invitational at Cobb’s Glen Country Club. She fired rounds of 77-74 to lead the Pioneers.
Ben Dietrich, a 2013 graduate and sophomore at the University of South Carolina, helped the Gamecocks earn a landmark victory at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Dietrich’s 218 tournament total was good for 32nd place, with his score counting two of three tournament rounds. The event featured many of the top programs in the country including defending NCAA champion Alabama.
Another 2013 graduate, Matt Rushton, had a solid sophomore debut for the University of Notre Dame Men’s Golf team with an 11th-place finish at the Gopher Invitational. His tournament total of 219 was the best on his team, and was highlighted by a back-nine score of 3-under-par 33 during the final round.
The 2014 college season is back in full-swing and the IJGA looks forward to following the success of our alumni.
