Bishops Gate Golf Academy sponsored three American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events this summer: the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior at Centennial at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Oregon, June 23-26, the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior Classic at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, California, July 28-31, and the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior Open at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico, California, Aug. 11-14. These three events provided 336 playing opportunities for junior golfers ages 12-18 on the West Coast.
The site of a former pear orchard, Centennial Golf Club provided a beautiful landscape to host the first Bishops Gate Golf Academy-sponsored AJGA Open event of the summer. A clinic was held during the event by AJGA staff members to help teach future golfers the fundamentals of the game. The Mayor of Medford, Oregon, Gary Wheeler welcomed the juniors to the event at the Players Meeting. Following the first day of competition, a “Putt-a-Pear” contest was held for juniors to highlight the history of Centennial Golf Club as well as provide a lighthearted break from competition. The social activity after the second day of competition allowed juniors and their families to partake in a fishing outing.
Held on one of the best courses in Ventura County, California, the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard California provided the backdrop for the second Bishops Gate Golf Academy-sponsored AJGA event of the summer. Bishops Gate Golf Academy’s Director of Mental Training Iain Highfield was on site and spoke at the Players Meeting and at the Parents Meeting. Tournament participants were treated to an exciting social activity by receiving VIP passes to see Dallas Cowboys Training Camp which took place next to the golf club at River Ridge Playing Fields.
The final Bishops Gate Golf Academy-sponsored AJGA tournament of the summer took place at Butte Creek Country Club – the first time the AJGA had held at event at the club. There was some excitement during the first round when Alexander Lee of Sacramento, California, fired a hole-in-one on a 172-yard par-3. Juniors were able to let loose following the first round by participating in a chipping contest.
Bishops Gate Golf Academy would like to thank the AJGA staff and interns along with the golf course staffs and volunteers for helping to put on three spectacular events this summer. These events were able to go off without a hitch due to their hard work and dedication.
