BGGA and BGGA La Loma’s Mauricio Figueroa earns medalist honors at the United States Junior Amateur Championship Qualifiers.
Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette hosted the U.S. Junior Amateur. Mauricio Figueroa, 17, of Guadalajara, México fired the low round of the day, a three-under par 69 to earn medalist honors in the boys’ qualifier. Figueroa shot 33 on his front nine and an even par 36 on his back nine. Figueroa is committed to play college golf for the University of Arkansas, and he will now get the opportunity to tee it up at famed Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey in the 71st U.S. Junior Amateur.
BGGA Senior Coach Manuel Bermudez said, “I’m so happy to see Mauricio perform as well as he has been doing outside of Mexico where he is ranked No. 1. Being the medalist at the U.S. Junior Qualifier opens a great opportunity for him. Baltusrol will fit his game very well. Let’s see how far he gets!”
