BGGA Student-Athlete Hiroshi Tai Verbally Commits to Georgia Institute of Technology

BGGA student Hiroshi Tai from Singapore verbally commited to Georgia Tech. Hiroshi’s goal was to play Division I college golf and he has now achieved that goal by committing to the Men’s DI college team currently ranked 2nd in the nation in the Golfstat national rankings, No. 2 in the Bushnell Coaches poll and No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index.

“I chose Georgia Tech because it is where I feel I have the best chance to accomplish my goals in golf and further my education, whilst having a great college experience,” said Hiroshi.

As a team, Tech owns the best average drop score (74.46) in the nation, and also ranked among the nation’s top 10 in average score (70.18, 4th), relation to par (-1.14, 4th), first-round scoring average (68.50, 1st), par-4 scoring (3.98, 3rd), par-5 scoring (4.59 (6th), and was No. 15 in total birdies (215) despite playing in only three stroke-play events (most teams play four or five).

“Hiroshi committing to a school like Georgia Tech shows the commitment he and his family have made on the course and in the classroom,” said BGGA Senior Coach Nick Duffy. “His hard work and dedication to getting the best education and golf experience he can at college will take him a long way.”

Hiroshi notched his first AJGA victory at the ACDS Junior Championship at San Jose Country Club in San Jose, CA in July with a three round total score of 7-under-par 203. This included a 66 in the second round featuring four birdies and two eagles. His eagle on the 3rdwas a hole in one from 174 yards.

Hiroshi is 62 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. He has had six top-ten finished in AJGA events since 2016, finishing 3rd at Sea Pines Junior Heritage in 2018, 4thin the 2017 Junior Orange Bowl International Championship and 6that the 2017 Jones Cup Invitational. He has a win on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Hiroshi also finished 5th at the Singapore National Amateur Championship in 2018.

Hiroshi was on the Montverde Academy honor roll, National Honor Society and was a BGGA Ambassador his junior year.

“Hiroshi defines excellence because every time he comes out to practice, he’s ready to train. He has his plan and is ready to work. When we’re on the course, he’s one of the best competitors in the group,” said Duffy. “We’re very proud of Hiroshi.”
