Hurricane Milton posed a significant challenge for the International Junior Golf Academy, who had planned a golf tournament for the weekend but then were hit by Hurricane Milton in the early hours of Thursday morning, with one of the most devastating hurricanes to ever hit Florida.
But, with great spirit from students and staff, they managed to prepare the course for their International Junior Golf Tour in less than two days. The amazing student volunteers volunteered to help with the damage on Thursday morning when golf maintenance could not get to the Bishops Gate campus, all with great pride and determination.
Culture of Teamwork and Leadership Unite IJGA and Local Community
The team focused on clearing debris from the golf course and roads and checked the campus for structural integrity. The next day the golf maintenance team did an amazing job of clearing the debris piles, blowing greens and fairways into perfect shape.
Then, friends from Hilton Head, experts in tree removal, came to provide support and removed at least twenty large fallen trees. Within just two days of this major disaster, collectively all had achieved the impossible, preparing the course for an IJGT tournament.
Over forty students participated and, in amazing weather, had a wonderful event with some extraordinary scores. Well done to all!
