For athletes, the number on a traditional scale rarely tells the whole story. A junior golfer can train consistently, gain muscle, lose body fat, and still see little or no change in overall body weight.
That is why IJGA has added InBody body composition analysis to our program, giving students and our performance team another way to understand the physical changes taking place throughout their training.
Looking Beyond Body Weight
Golf development requires much more than simply getting stronger or changing a number on a scale. At IJGA, our training remains performance-driven, with the goal of helping each student develop the physical qualities needed to perform at their best.
InBody provides additional insight by allowing us to track changes in areas such as muscle mass and body fat over time.
For example, an athlete may gain two pounds of muscle while simultaneously losing two pounds of body fat. Their body weight may remain exactly the same, but their body composition has changed significantly.
Having a more complete picture allows students to better understand the progress they are making through their training.
Connecting Training and Nutrition
Tracking body composition can also create valuable conversations around nutrition.
Whether a student is looking to gain muscle, reduce body fat, or work toward a combination of both, their InBody results can help provide context for discussions about nutritional changes that may support those goals.
Rather than focusing only on body weight, students can see measurable changes taking place as they continue training.
For young athletes who dedicate significant time and effort to their development, seeing that progress can also be an important source of motivation.
Tracking Progress Wherever Golf Takes Them
Another useful feature is the InBody app, which allows students to store their scan data digitally rather than relying only on printed results.
Because InBody machines are available around the world, students can continue connecting and comparing their scan results when they return home, leave IJGA, or eventually move on to college.
This creates an opportunity to maintain a longer-term record of their physical development as they progress through different stages of their golf journey.
Another Tool for Long-Term Development
InBody does not replace performance training. Instead, it gives our students and performance team another tool for understanding how the body is changing alongside that training.
By looking beyond the scale, students can gain a clearer picture of their progress and develop a better understanding of the relationship between training, nutrition, and body composition.
