Two former IJGA Full-Time students. Two successful collegiate careers. One shared dream.
The International Junior Golf Academy is proud to celebrate two former full-time students from the Czech Republic who are making their mark on the Korn Ferry Tour. Former University of Arizona golfer Filip Jakubčík and former University of Washington golfer Petr Hrubý, both of whom began their journeys at IJGA before progressing through NCAA Division I golf and into the professional game.
Although Petr is two years older than Filip, the pair were able to spend two years together in college, helping to build a friendship that has continued into the professional ranks. Both have also returned to IJGA as alumni to train together, maintaining a close connection with the academy.
At 22 years old, Jakubčík has made an excellent start as a professional, making four cuts from his first five Korn Ferry Tour starts. In only his second event as a professional he made a memorable hole in one at the Memorial Health Championship. At the most recent Utah Championship that concluded on August 2nd, he finished with bogey free rounds of 64 and 63 over the weekend to gain his first Top 10 finish.
His compatriot Hrubý, now 24, had a poor start to the year, missing his first five cuts, but now playing alongside Filip in the same five events that Filip has played in, Petr has made all five cuts, a wonderful turnaround. Probably many factors have gone into this improved form, but it must be reassuring to have such a good friend join him on tour, sharing dinners and playing practice rounds together. Perhaps also some friendly rivalry pushing them to new highs.
We look forward to following Filip and Petr throughout the rest of the season and wish them every success as they continue their journey towards the PGA TOUR.
It has also been interesting to see Petr’s form improve while competing alongside fellow IJGA alumnus Filip Jakubčík. After missing the cut in his opening five starts, Petr has now made the cut in each of his last five events, making it a brilliant period for both Czech golfers.
