IJGA Alumni Making Inroads in the Professional Ranks

IJGA alums Laura Restrepo and Richy Werenski both notched professional milestones this week.

Laura shot 2 under on the last 3 holes to clinch her second professional title in back-to-back fashion, winning the LPGA International event at Daytona Beach, Florida.

“Back to back wins! Words can’t describe how excited I am! So thankful for all the sweet people who have reached out to me!”

Moving on to her next competition, Laura posted a blistering 7 under par second round to claim a share of first place at the Florida Women’s Open. She wasn’t able to make it three wins in a row, finishing tied for fifth place, but this was still an excellent showing against the toughest field on the tour to date.

Richy recorded his first top 10 finish on the PGA Tour at the CareerBuilder Challenge in La Quinta, CA in only his eighth tour event. Richy played a strong and consistent game, finishing six shots off the pace in a tightly bunched scoring field.

“I think I played solid all week,” said Werenski. “Definitely left some shots out there. Missed a few short little putts. These greens get kind of tough to read in the late afternoon. But I felt really good.”

Laura, a member of the IJGA class of 2012, was a standout on the University of Louisville golf team and won her first professional tournament last month at the National Women’s Golf Association event at Zellwood Station Country Club in Apopka, Florida.

Richy, a 2010 IJGA graduate who played in college at Georgia Tech, is a rookie on the PGA tour this season and is on everyone’s list as a a player to watch.
