This week’s IJGA Alumni Update features class of 2011 graduate Rika Park, Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan, who currently plays collegiate golf at the University of Miami and competed at the Hurricane Invitational on the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida, March 2-4, 2015.
Park is currently a senior at the University of Miami and boasts a golf resume that includes two trips to the ACC Championships and a trip to NCAA Regionals. She’s also finished top 10 in the Hurricane Invitational twice (2012, 2013) prior to teeing off this season.
Park’s Miami team, who hosts the annual event, finished second in the tournament thanks, in large part, to Park’s strong performance. Her second-round score of a 2-under-par 69 was her tournament best and included two birdies and par-or-better-finishes on 15 straight holes. Park led the entire Miami squad in the second round besting her season average of 2-over-par.
Park’s final score of 218 (74-69-75) led her into a tie for 13th place just six strokes behind the winner.
Other recent alumni accomplishments include Giovanni Trione of Rome, Italy, who led the Queens University Men’s golf team to a tournament win on Feb. 23, 2015 in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The tournament was cut short due to inclement weather but Trione, who was tied for first after one round with an even-par 71, was named an eventual winner. Queens University also took home first place as a team.
